I’m Going to Spain!

Okay, I know I was supposed to publish my post about how I lost 9kgs while eating chocolate cake today - and believe me it’s coming - but I just couldn’t concentrate on finishing it because this morning I booked my family a 4 WEEK EUROPEAN VACATION!

This is super exciting news because:

  1. Hello… a month in SPAIN, PARIS and LONDON. Who wouldn’t be excited?
  2. This will be the first family holiday my husband and I have ever had with our son
  3. This will be the first time in 9 years that my husband and I have actually gone overseas TOGETHER. You may recall from my post about The most daring thing I have ever done that I have travelled extensively on my own, so the fact that this time we are going to SHARE adventures is a big deal for us.

As you can imagine, I can’t really concentrate today because I feel like I have ants running through my veins and I’ve madly vacuumed, tidied the house and wandered around town in a daze. The day is fading fast, and I can’t really think where it’s gone, but I know I’ve been busy and my mum bought me a Lonely Planet book for Spain, and we did go to the shops and I spent $15 on fruit and vegetables, but I have no idea what I bought.

I feel like my head is screwed on someone else’s body and all that’s going through my mind is:

“Spain. I’m going to Spain. Paris. I’m finally going to return to Paris, and with my husband. Yay, romance!”

Then the daze shifts slightly and now it’s,

“Omigod, I’m going to fly on an airplane with my 4 year old for 23 hours. Am I INSANE?”

There’s so much I have to organize and I’ll have to draw up a to-do list, but at the moment I’m so scatty I can’t think past passports. I’ve got to get my son a passport.

We leave on May 24th, so you can expect to receive some more posts about Travel, Spain, London and Paris in the coming months. And if any of you have some suggestions for must see attractions in Spain, then let me know because this is where we’ll be spending most of our time. And tips for travelling with kids. I’m going to be researching that, so any help you can offer I’d sure appreciate it.

Agh, I’m going to Spain! Cue the happy dance.

How exciting! I’m sure your 4 year old will be fine. By the time they’re that age, they can usually sit pretty still. Just make sure to pack a DVD player, spare batteries, and lots of snacks!

You’re in for another grand adventure, lucky you! Travel is a great growth experience and it will be wonderful to share it with your family. Your 4 year old will be fine–I always carried a surprise bag for my children on long trips. They received a new toy, book, game every few hours. It added some fun to what can be a very boring time for little ones.

Hi Kelly - you’re going to have a wonderful time. Where in Spain have you decided to go? I love the place - my parents have a villa there which is fab.

You’re picking a great time of year to come to Europe - the weather will be perfect - nice but not too hot to enjoy yourselves. And I hope you’ll drop by Disneyland Paris whilst you’re there - that is a lot of fun. London is one of my favourite places in the world, so if you want tips on great stuff to do there with kids, don’t forget to give me a shout. We always use Priceline to get accommodation there as it’s so much cheaper. The National History Museum and the Science Museum are great for kids and the London Eye is awesome. There’s heaps to do. You’ll have a blast.

Thanks for the tips and the well wishes, and I’m sure Bunny (my son) will be fine at this age. But that doesn’t mean I’m not nervous!

Cath, thanks for the sightseeing ideas. I think we have 23 days in Spain and we fly into Barcelona. Haven’t worked out itinerary yet, but roughly think we’ll do around Barcelona and then go down the coast and in to Granada and over to Seville. We still have to work it out. Want to keep the 23 days as relaxing as possible for everyone’s sake.

Unfortunately Paris and London are just 5 days of business (the reason for the trip originally) this time, so we’ll only be able to sight see a bit, but it’s still exciting because I’ve never been to London. And though hubby will be having meetings etc, Bunny and I will be able to make the most of the 3 days. I’ve been to Paris before and love it! So, I’m just appreciative that I get a couple of days to introduce it to Glenn.

Awesome! definitely you’ll have to see the Gaudi sites in Barcelona, and the Alhambra is a one in a lifetime thing. I would also recommend Cordoba (La Mequita - one day is plenty) and Sevilla. It is a beautiful town with lots to see - including flamenco!

How exciting! Have some fun in your life!

Hey! Don’t complaint about your kids. When they grow up, they won’t have a month to spend with you. So take your chance to enjoy your life with them.

Life is short, enjoy it while you can! Looking forward to seeing your great photos and great smiles!

That sounds wonderful, Kelly. Your son is very lucky. I’ve never been to Spain, but it looks amazing and I look forward to seeing it through your eyes.
