Blog Issues – SPAM?

A few people have contacted me to report there’s been a problem with my website and the possibility that someone is sending SPAM through SHE-POWER.

Emails were sent out overnight for a ‘new post’, with the contents being a few disjointed and nonsensical sentences that were, according to my mother, offensive.

Firstly, let me apologize if anyone got this email and was offended by its content.

The headline of the ‘article’ is mine and the writing is a few fractured thoughts I jotted down last week when I was brainstorming for a future post. The post was nowhere near finished – just a collection of ideas with no structure or revision – and it was not meant to be published.

As to how some of my brainstorming went from the DRAFTS section of my website to PUBLISHED, I have no idea.

When I was first told this morning, I wondered whether I had pressed PUBLISH by mistake (even though that should have sent the emails out Friday after I saved the file), but when I came to the site to investigate, I found the file still in DRAFTS and not published anywhere on the actual site.

If anyone followed the link in the email and it actually led to an article on this site or any other, could you please let me know. Because so far, I am really not sure what happened. I just hope I haven’t been hacked.

Also, if you receive any more strange correspondence from me or see anything unusual with this site, please let me know. I’ll be keeping a closer eye on things for awhile.

And again, I’m sorry if anyone was confused or offended.

Oh dear….I received an email alert that you have got a new post. I went to check and realized that the post did not exist. I was sent to an error page. I wish I can help you identify the cause but I really have no clue myself….sorry!

I didn’t get an email but it showed up in my reader. I read the first few lines, including advice on sexual activity, and thought huh? I went to open the blogpost and it said there was a 404 error. But no email came to me.

I also received the email. It lead to a nonexistant page. Didn’t find it offensive though. Was anxious to read the rest, so please finish the post and send it on… :)

Have you updated WordPress to the latest version? There were some security issues in the early 2.8’s that might have led to this.

Correction – I just saw it in my Google reader.

Hi Kelly: I saw the “post” on my reader, read through it, thought “this is really strange”, and then I clicked over and saw an error message. I figured you had pressed the “publish” button by mistake and then erased the post when you realized this. But if you never hit the publish button, then that’s really weird.

I assumed you had accidentally published a draft instead of saving it.

I read your blog via Google Reader, and when I clicked on the link, it led to an “error” page.

It showed in my Google Reader on Saturday, August 22, around 9pm California time.

So, I don’t think your blog has been hacked.

From what I saw though, I would encourage you to finish that post! It looked promising. :)

Hey Kelly, I looked at your post through my reader too and was taken to an error page. I’d just assumed it was spam. No harm, no foul. 😉

Oh Kelly – I was getting ready to be all sympathetic and everything, and then I checked my Reader after reading the above comments and I have had the best laugh in ages! Thank you!

You can Resync Feedburner – under Troubleshootize – to remove it from your feed (I think, I might be quite wrong)

I got the feeds in my reader, but the only one I’ve clicked on was this one, so I was forewarned.
